Characteristics/suitability:
A new cycle route from Adenua to St. Vith connects the Eifel and Ardennes regions. Whilst the eastern part of the route from Adenau via Gerolstein to Prüm is characterised by deep cuttings and steep rises, in the western half from Prüm to St. Vith cyclists can enjoy a greatly changed landscape: here high plateaux rather than towering heights and plunging depths determine the topography of the region and the Kyll, Nims, Prüm, Alf, Ihren springs are still narrow and only slightly cut into the ground. Almost the whole stretch runs through former railways tracks with long drawn and softly undulating landscape forms, making is it a panoramic cycling pleasure of the highest order. It is only the Ourtal valley that needs to be crossed before St. Vith is reached.

The Eifel-Ardenneds logo is still in development. However, the path is well signed and easy to follow.

Eastern section: Adenau – Gerolstein – Prüm:
Three marked rises in the landscape are to be conquered on the way as you cross the Nürburghöhe, through Kelburg and from Daun to Gerolstein, before the route goes downhill into the Kytall valley and further to Prüm. There are plans to extend this section cycle path, barely 25 km long, on to the former railway tracks.

Western section Prüm – Ourtal (St. Vith)
The core of the western Eifel-Ardennes section offers pure cycling pleasure: The whole of the 30km section from Prüm to Steinebrück in the Ourtal valley is constructed on former railway tracks, with the exception of two stretches (at Habscheidermühle in the Alfbachtal vallley and Bleialf): The track continues onwards from Prüm to the former railway junction at Pronsfeld through the Prümtal valley (10 km), then northwards through the marvellous, nature-rich valley of the Alfbachtal to Bleialf (21km), where the track turns in a westerly direction and runs through the Ihrenbach valley before reaching the Our, a border river (30 km).
The next 8 km before St. Vith on the Belgian side await the removal of the train tracks over the next few years, which may be delayed due to repairs being carried out on a long tunnel. Until then, it’s a tough sweat from the Ourtal valley up to St. Vith, where riders will find more than enough opportunities to grab a bite to eat and relax.
